Further Details

A workers co-operative. The concept of the Wood N Stuff Training Workshops social firm was launched in June 1995. It was envisaged that a workshop for people with a disability would be best run by the very people who attend. We also feel that people should not be labelled and segregated into different disabilities. We are unique, not only in Suffolk but most of East Anglia with this concept, although we have a number of people interested in imitating our concept. In February 1997, after careful planning and deliberation we became a fully fledged Common Ownership Co-operative Company Limited by Guarantee. This means that people attending the workshops may become members of the Co-operative if they wish (membership is subject to a short qualifying period). The philosophy at Wood N Stuff is NOT to put pressure upon people to produce in quantities - whether it be their own product or one of the many items we produce in the workshops. If a member is having a bad day - and lets face it we all have them - then the member works at his or her own pace.
